Shri Raja Shiv / Chhatrapati

The Shivrai was the everyday copper coin of Swarajya, struck in large numbers from the coronation in 1674. Its Devanagari legend — 'Shri Raja Shiv' on the obverse and 'Chhatrapati' on the reverse — was a deliberate assertion of sovereign, indigenous rule. Shivrai coins remained in circulation across the Deccan well into the 19th century.
